confusion regarding various products

Question

Friends,

I am new to crystal reports. I have downloaded Crystal reports 2008 and playing with it

In the website, there are several products listed and I am confused which one our team would need.

From this link

http://www.businessobjects.com/product/qra/reporting.asp

Crystal reports 2008

Crystal reports server 2008

Crystal reports viewer

crystal reports for eclipse

My aim is to generate reports. We are comfortable using Eclipse for designing reports and install in some web/application server like Tomcat. Is just crystal reports for eclipse sufficient. What value do other products add and do we need them at all ?

Thanks a lot

  1. It depends on what your goals are for your application. Crystal Reports for Eclipse works for smaller scale applications and has the embedded designer with basic functionality, as well as an SDK that you can use to deploy reports to either a viewer in a web browser or desktop java application.

Crystal Reports 2008 is the fully functional report designer and has more features than the basic designer. If you want reports that have alot of additonal features, this is something you should consider.

I would highly recommend going to the [Business Objects Portal|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc] on the SAP SDN site. This contains information about most of the Business Objects products and should give you some ideas about what you might need now or in the future.
